Christmastime is near.

Christmas is this week and I am on vacation for a few days. Hopefully I will get more picture taking and posting in. I took a break only because I realized holiday food was adding to my waistline so I've been hitting the gym more and working a lot... anyway here are a few photos from this past week.

Another long break

Life gets so busy - especially around the holidays. I have been taking photos, but less than I was before. I need to get back on track, I know, but I have a long list of things I need to do... one of which is a take a staycation so I can actually get things on the list done!

Here are some photos of recent events (after the break)

Annoyed

So I thought I posted on Sunday, but apparently the post didn't work. I got 4 pictures in last week. Not quite 5, but close. I shifted my focus to running last week because I'm running in a road race tomorrow morning.

Speaking of mornings, last week I tried to shift my focus to taking pictures in the morning. It's a different kind of light in the mornings so I thought I'd experiment. Here are the results:

Only Three

So this week I only got 3 photos. Things have been really, really, really hectic. I'm looking forward to the holidays because I could definitely use some time off to take a deep breath, metaphorically speaking... Anyway, here are the three. My goal is to get at least 4 or 5 this week.

Getting Back on Track

I've started taking the bus more as a safety measure than anything, but I got this as I got off the bus. I bought a little gorrillapod about a month ago. It's just a mini tripod for digital cameras, but it's great for my night photography... anyway I used that and the timer function and set it on top of a mailbox to get this photo.... I like the car lights.

I'm FINALLY back.

I apologize for not updating lately. The last few weeks have been overwhelming. When I submitted my time sheet on Friday I had 50 hours of overtime on it... It was over a two week period, but I've literally just been working and coming home. Thus, the blog was not updated and the photo taking was affected as well. I did take a few pictures and today I actually went out and walked around with the intent of taking pictures. I am hoping to get back on track with this. I'm also hoping that work isn't as intense as it was...

Anyway here are the pictures I've taken over the last few weeks.

I've decided to talk a little less about my photos and just post them for what they are. They're pictures, they should speak for themselves.

Foggy and Fall

I took this early this morning. I drove from Connecticut to Boston this morning because I was home yesterday for a family party. This was taken around 7am. I like the light and the fog and clouds in the background. It makes me nostalgic for home...

Sunset

I really like this photo. I like the crisp dark shapes of the leaves and trees in the foreground and the colors and clouds in the sky. I took this around 6:30 on my walk home from work tonight... The changing seasons definitely change the light, as in when the sunsets and the intensity of light. We all know the earth leans away from the earth but moves closer to the sun in the winter and that changes the light that I am working with in taking photos. I'm glad that it's changed the time of sunset in that I can get these pictures on my way home, but I am sad that the sun is setting so early since I like to walk home.

Til tomorrow -

Shadows

This isn't the greatest picture ever, but I didn't take that many pictures yesterday out of frustration. I do, however, like the pattern of the shadows from the light posts on the left side of the picture. I wish I had focused my lens on that and that the shadows were filling the frame. In other news, I ordered a 'gorilla pod' on wednesday. It think it will help and encourage my night photography, which I have always been interested in. When I feel more confident with my photos I'll get out the 35mm and do some night color photos and play with reciprocity failure and see what colors I get... I'm excited.

I have been really frustrated with my photos and photo taking lately, which is why I haven't posted in a few days. I still haven't found a focus or theme and my lens and my eyes are all over the place. It has to do with a lot of factors, but one is definitely my camera and the confidence in it. I feel weird taking pictures with my little point and shoot. It makes me feel like a creep in the dark and a tourist during the day. I really need to sit down and think about what I want to focus on and start shooting it... I'm gonna have to get out my 35mm camera if that's what it takes, but I'm also going to have save up the money for that. Anyway - Hopefully I can figure this out soon and stop feeling such a funk with these pictures.

I like that I was able to capture the movement of the people, but the tent and light are static, but crisp. I had some other great shots, but they were of people and I didn't really feel comfortable posting those pictures up on the blog for privacy reasons. Plus the ceremony itself was a small and intimate gathering and I didn't feel that putting up those pictures for critique was something I wanted to do.

I do like the photo a lot, but I am not happy with the angle the building takes within the frame... unfortunately I don't have photoshop to fix this. I guess not having photoshop is good because I am forced to work on capturing exactly what I want and actually getting the composition in the time the shutter is open... not fixing and tweaking it after... Anyway ... I like this and the twilight lighting.

Next Step: I need to find a theme.

I'm not feeling so inspired with this picture, but it was the only one I took on Thursday.  The actual light of the evening was really amazing, but my camera just didn't capture... I do like the composition with the movement of the cars and static building in the background.  Plus I am slightly missing Boston so I get a little nostalgic looking at the Hancock Tower.  Clearly I'm not that far from the city, but I just haven't been in Boston really since I've moved.  There's still plenty of photos to take and I still haven't gotten my 35mm photos developed... Soon.  I hope.

I'm also excited to be employed in a job where I have weekends to myself and I am not in school... it's the first time this has happened in my life and I am enjoying it. Anyway, this is a park I pass by on the walk between work and home. I took pictures my whole way home and I have to say it made me notice a lot of little things... a lot of great little things. I think the picture taking on the walk home is a gonna be a good them, but theme is another thing I'll have to talk about in a later entry...

Photostream

So I can't reiterate enough how busy these last few weeks have been for me... I've just been so exhausted. I've been working a ton, I've still barely unpacked (I still have boxes in my room and nothing on my walls... it's pretty ghetto), so getting into my photography has been hard. I've also missed a few days... where I haven't take pictures at all. I'm ok with it, though, because some days I take a lot, a lot of pictures, and other days I don't. Plus what I've been doing at my job is really cool and I've been getting a lot of overtime so that's good... hopefully I can't get into a better rhythm with the blog and the pictures and life in general soon. Here are the missing pictures below :)

2 weeks

So... I'm finally back up.  I've had internet for over a week now and my computer since last Thursday, but settling and moving in combination with my actual job and other planned events I haven't had time to update.  My brain is a little on the fried side, I am super tired, and our internet is beyond annoyingly slow so I am going to force you all (my legions of fans, haha) to wait another day until I can figure out how to format the blog stuff and get all the pictures in one entry instead of 14 separate ones.  I did, however, get the images on my flickr, despite our slow, slow connection.... so if you'd like to go to my flickr page and look at the images feel free to do so here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/lisascho/

I'll post the ruminations and images to the blog later.  Sorry!

Further Delays

My poor little mac has been sent in for a tune-up/the optical drive is broken. It turns three next week ie. my apple care expires then so I had to send it in now. I am still taking pictures, but can't post them until I get my computer back. This move has been ridiculous, and I've been documenting it, but I can't post anything images for now. Also, I've misplaced my digital camera battery charger in moving, painting, etc. I need to get my 35mm negatives developed...

'Til later.

Programming Note

I won't be able to post any pictures or long posts till Saturday. We don't have internet at the new apartment yet.

Yes, I took this with my little green Fuji FinePix, but I like the composition and the lighting. I feel good about the past few days of photography. I still have my 35mm film to be developed, but getting my SLR out and getting some night photos on the blog are really helping me feel better about my photography. Soon enough I'll get more technical and get into the nitty gritty photography that I so desperately want to get back to...

In other news you'll have to forgive the missing blog days and short entries that have happened/will happen this week. This whole moving thing is turning into a real fiasco. This morning we showed up to move and the tenants were still practically living there. Furniture and stuff still everywhere! And they were planning to leave it! They didn't seem to understand that when you move out you don't just leave what you don't want behind. We had to push everything back. And now I'll have to take time off work. Which was the whole point of moving early.... I cannot miss work! Anyway, thankfully mommabear is here to help and take care of me and help make me feel less stressed out. She also got a hotel room for us so I don't have to look at the packing and mess that is my apartment/life for a night and I get to sleep in a comfortable bed :)

Anyway, like I said in the last entry I'm exhausted and need to rest up for tomorrow so this is going to be short. I'll be back to normal soon... I hope, ha.

Today Felt Like Fall

08.27.09
Originally uploaded by lisascho

I took this on my way home from work today. There was a lot of traffic today. I'm not sure if it's because I actually left work on time today or that it was due to Ted Kennedy's Funeral Procession, the sox game, or the fact that college students are already moving. It was probably a combination of everything.

Anyway, I was crossing the BU Bridge and we stopped long enough for me to whip out my cell phone and get this picture. I think it's pretty decent quality for myself and I really like the shadow and composition. I only wish the the person exiting the picture had actually ended up in the picture, but the lag time on my cell phone's camera isn't exactly high tech. The glare on the window could be photoshopped out, too I guess. Anyway I like this one a lot... it's making me feel a little bit better about my composition.

As much as I am sad for summer to go, today's weather made me excited for fall. The air is always crisper and clearer in the fall and the colors are amazing... I can't wait to photograph it all.

Anyway... I like the reflections and how your eye shifts focus between what's a reflection and what isn't. It's the view outside and looking in from the window at my desk. And there's me with my little green camera.

I was hoping to get some good night photos with my SLR in the neighborhood before we move, but I don't know if that will happen. This place has been my home for 3 years and I love it so much... It's so dynamic at night, especially game nights! I think the pictures would be great. I just don't have the time to invest. Just like me to leave everything to the last second...
